Work of Big Brothers/Big Sisters Respected by Michael Staisil

There are a wide variety of organizations in the US that are focused on helping others. Some of them, like the Red Cross and the United Way are involved in addressing the needy in a variety of ways, on a relatively massive national scale. They do work locally as well, and Michael Staisil thinks they do amazing work. But, there are other organizations that operate nationally but work on the individual level to make people better.

One such organization is Big Brothers / Big Sisters. Big Brothers / Big Sisters was founded in 1904 in New York City. Their main goal is to help boys and girls in the US to have a mentor and role model to look up to. By having a positive role model, these kids can ultimately have a better chance at becoming as intelligent and successful as they can. Some young people, especially in urban areas, are in dire need of good role models. Michael Staisil is happy that Big Brothers / Big Sisters gives those kids the opportunity to have someone looking out for the best interest of their little brother or little sister.

Part of the reason that Michael Staisil believes in BB/BS is the fact that there have been studies conducted showing the impact a Big Brother or Big Sister can have on children in the US. They are much less likely to use drugs, alcohol, skip school, hit people, or skip class. That's a proven result that Michael Staisil is happy to support.

All it takes is a minor commitment for volunteers and supporters to make a difference with Big Brothers / Big Sisters. Michael Staisil encourages good people he knows to consider signing up to be a volunteer. It can change not only a young person's life, but your life as well.
